ARC (Advanced Rider Course)
Made for current riders — who are comfortable and proficient on their motorcycle… with a desire to hone their skills to a whole new level. A fast-paced classroom segment emphasizes perception and hazard awareness while the riding portion enhances both basic and crash avoidance skills. Improved braking and cornering finesse is emphasized on the range. It is truly a fun experience!

ARC FAQ (Frequently Asked questions)
The questions below are asked all the time.
Ride date — you need your motorcycle —
- You must be the owner of the motorcycle you are riding (no loaners). Insurance and registration must be in your name [exception — when motorcycle is owned by spouse]
- Motorcycle must be roadworthy (good tires, working brakes, bike burns more gas than oil, etc)
- Tire pressure and suspension checked according to MOM (Motorcycle Owner’s Manual) to ensure proper tire inflation
- Set suspension for how you usually ride
Paperwork
- Valid photo driver license with motorcycle endorsement
- Current motorcycle registration
- Current motorcycle insurance
Riding gear
- Helmet — minimum DOT (Department of Transportation) approved
- Eye protection — goggles, face shields, impact resistant prescription glasses are authorized
- No skin below the chin, which means:
Long sleeve shirt/jacket
Full fingered gloves
Long pants (not flared)
Ankle protecting footwear
2 piece rain suit (we ride rain or shine)
Will I dump my bike?
No — unless you do something completely outside the norm! The exercises are designed to build your skills — not scare or hurt you. Bottom line: if this WERE dangerous, or I had to worry about my bike going down, I wouldn’t be using MY motorcycle to demonstrate these exercises!!!
Do I need a Basic Basic Course first?
No, it is not a requirement. The vast majority of riders who take this course have not had any previous formal training. But that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t take a BRC — if you haven’t had one, take one — every rider should have a BRC in their riding history, you will ride so much better if you take one.
How long is the course?
Just over two hours of classroom prior to the riding date. Then approximately 5 hours of riding on the designated date doing exercises that concentrate on braking, cornering, and swerving. About 7 hours total. There are no tests, academic or riding… the whole program is geared to giving you techniques, not evaluating you.
What does it cost?
$125 plus PayPal fee to register
How do I get into a class?
You pay below and include the date you want to take the class (see schedule above) We will email you with a confirmation and class instructions.
What do I get when it’s done?
An ARC MSF (Motorcycle Safety Foundation) Completion Card — proof of training that is honored by most insurance companies for a discount on your motorcycle insurance premium. You also leave a better rider — with new techniques, a heightened awareness of motorcycling hazards, and more capability to defend yourself against them.

Also, you must sign a SAFETY COURSE –GENERAL RELEASE, WAIVER, & INDEMNIFICATION AGREEMENT form and acknowledge you understand the Pelican State MOTO Training Rules and Contract before you participate in class. These forms are posted here to allow you to read and comprehend them before signing up for the class.
